Get Liberty, Or Die Trying...
In honor of our Unit on the Revolutionary War in U.S. History, our class looked at an editorial from a colonial newspaper that was written in December of 1776. The quote we examined was as follows:
"It is obvious that the struggling Americans cannot defeat the mighty British Empire, the time has come to surrender these mad dreams of independence and return to life as thriving colonies under British rule."
Do agree or disagree with the statement? This is exactly what PCMS'ers were asked to respond to in their letter to the editor (response to this statement). Here is what your fellow classmates had to say:
Dear Editor,
"I will fight for freedom. I will fight one hundred and ten percent. Actually, we are dead with no freedom. I must fight to be alive... Why call this mad dreams? I suggest this is hopeful and possible dreams..." - J.G.
"With all due respect I believe you are underestimating the strength and courage of the colonists. Even though the British government might be considered a "powerful empire," their reasons are selfish and will ultimately fail." - Y.S.
"I disagree with you. Shouldn't everyone in life try their best and for the possibility of success? Sometimes mad dreams are the best, as they are the ones that come true and last forever." - J.R.
Progressive Thinking,
C.S.
