You barely talk... admit it, you text & e-mail! We are text savy, crazy, and sometimes just plain lazy. We are a society that no longer wants to talk. If we wanted to talk we would get together. We wanted to stay connected with friends and family, at least that was our excuse for these gadgets. Now we are desiring minimal contact in a complex world. In world that "connects" us in so many ways, we are finding ways to avoid it...
You started out with a "cellular device." Call from anywhere you could connect to an analog tower. Then came the digital conversation. Do you realize that the "dial tone" you hear on your phone is actually a software program that creates that sound, it's not even neccessary anymore, yet we have it because that's what we are comfortable with, that's what we know. Ok, now comes the digital world, and with the inception of the satellite we are able to make calls from a 1x system from pretty much anywhere in the world where our cell phone can transmit to the outer edges of space.
Now comes the "upgrade" society. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. No longer is verbal contact in the Amazon Rainforest to your best friend in the Sahara desert good enough, now you need email, ITunes store, and restaraunt finder capabilities. What? Can't find your car in Andes Mountains? Your IPhone can assist you with that.
Have we become lost in applications? Yes! I no longer want to talk to you, I would rather text you. Why? Because now I only have to have only the REQUIRED amount of contact with you. I can only fit 120 characters in the text, which means that I only need to convey up to 120 letters of interaction, and you only 120 back. We are also able to have simplistic interactions. Text Message: "What's up?" "Not Much." "What are you doing tonight?" "Nothing."
Don't even get me started on your horrible spelling and lingo! Stop it. U R crzy!
Ok. Now to the review. Palm Pre and its new online functionality, Blackberry Curve and it's timeless abilities, IPhone and its ridiculous awesomeness yet ridiculous price. The low down: The Palm Pre offers a ton of functionality, but it's not time-tested... You see, every two months a new gadget/phone is released, and every two months another phone is a "bust."
The IPhone is time-tested, and will literally force you to spend more time at work gaining overtime hours to pay for it and it's ridiculously priced plan cost.
The Blackberry is by far the best buy. Now understand, I am biased since I have one, but let me explain why. It is the chaeapest in intitial cost of all the mentioned PDA's, and cheaper than most gimicky full querty keyboard phones. As well, the phone will only cost you the additional data package cost of your provider to have internet capabilities.
Finally, with the induction of the Blackberry applications store, you can have ITunes and all of those fancy applications your IPhone has. As well, the keyboard is much more functional as far as typing goes than the IPhone touchscreen. The only dilemma, web browsing is not as fast or as user friendly as the Iphone or Palm Pre. But the way I look at it, we are already becoming so disconnected, what's the extra minute wait for the browser to load your page, and the page a day you can't view correctly because it's not compatible yet with the Blackberry's software...?
Best,
C.S.
