Celebrating a Legend of Race Equality: Why We Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day?

"Hate cannot drive out hate.  Only love can do that."
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

How we love Martin Luther King Jr. day!  Why?  Because it gives a chance to celebrate one of the most notable and influential race-equality ambassadors in history, right?  Or, do we simply love this day of celebration because it results in a day off from school?

Martin Luther King Jr. brought together the masses in order to refute the racial segregation and disparities faced by our nation.  While some of these racial disparities still exist today, we have come a long way from the dark decades of racial inequality at its fullest.  It was less of what Martin Luther King Jr. did and more about what he said.  So why take a day to remember this great man who died in 1968 for for his ideals?  Simple.  Adoration (Love).

Martin Luther King Jr. showed us how to love our opposition into submission.  How to solve our problems without violence, bloodshed, and terror.  It today's society, this "preaching" goes a long way!  Think of how you solve your problems today?  Do you love your enemy so much that they finally realize your true intentions?  Do you love those that you oppose to the point where they finally see it your way?

While racial equality was the direct focus of Dr. King Jr's ministry, it was his ability to solve conflict with love that makes him truly great.  The next time you find yourself struggling, fighting, or in opposition with someone/something around you, attempt to find a new way of opposing that challenge, love it.

Take a moment today or tomorrow to go out of your way to love someone, this is the way in which you can truly celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's legacy.

  1. What a great reminder to treat others with compassion, empathy, and love! When we think of public figures who have stood their ground in the face of persecution, tribulation, and adversity, few have demonstrated greater acts of love than Martin Luther King Jr.
Thanks for providing me with a challenge today.
    Great blog!
